북한경제 비교 분석의 함정

초록

According to an analysis of this paper, the most contributing country for North Korea’s recovering from the infamous ‘Arduous March’starting in 1995, would be the US rather than South Korea. We show that the available estimates on North Korea’s coal productions for 2011~2015 were severely under-estimated and the internal consistency for estimating the growth rates of North Korea for 2011~2018 by the Bank of Korea (BOK) were apparently undermined. On the other hand, the BOK’s estimates on North Korea’s per capita income in US dollars have been unfairly criticized by who did not understand the concept of PPP. The CIA website’s estimates on North Korea’s income in PPP U.S. dollars has apparently used the BOK estimates in US dollars converted by South Korea’s PPP exchange rates. South Korea’s per capita income in 2017 of US$ 30,000 is not the symbol of an advanced country, and was already reached by G7 countries in 28~44 years ago.
