History of Eugenical Discourse in Western

초록

The purpose of this article is to outline the history of eugenic discourse, which can be called a transhistorical mentality, with a focus on Western society. This is due to the judgment that the eugenics discourse is inertially located at the base of the social ideology of superiority and inferiority/fit and unfit, which is also deepening in our society, and the culture of hate. Thanks to eugenics that appeared in the mid-19th century, the eugenic discourse is exercising more powerful power by naturalizing and justifying the dichotomous way of thinking about humans in the name of science. Basically, eugenics discourse is deeply related to the normative culture of a society. Therefore, an understanding of the incompetent or dominant person in a particular era can be a barometer for understanding the ruling ideology of a society. Through this, I would like to get an implication for contemplating the direction of a new normative culture these days, when there is a lot of discussion surrounding the new normal in the post-corona era.
