초록

This paper analyzed conversation with writing between Lee Unjin who was sent to Japan as a member of the delegation to Japan and Japanese literary men in 1763. Especially it centered on conversation on Wang Sejeong. Before going to Japan as an envoy, Lee Unjin’s status was not very high. However his status of the group of the delegation to Japan gradually stood out through poem written in there and conversation with writings related with Japanese writers. Japanese writers appreciated Lee Unjin more valuable than other writers having higher status than Lee Unjin. Materials of conversation with writings of now remaining in Japan including conversations with Lee Unjin are six. These are Gujeongnammyung’s Ahngahngyeohang, Ohjeonsangjae’s Yanghoyeohwa, Gungroeyoungmun’s Dongsayeodam, Guemjeongsongahm’s Seongahngphildam, Naesansokjae’s Sokjaetamseungcho and Namcheongeumgye’s Geumgyejabhwa. Arguments surrounding Wang Sejeong almost recorded without exception in their conversation were interesting. While Wang Sejeong was not appreciated by Joseon writers, he was very highly appreciated by Japanese writers in that times. In this situations, as Lee Unjin repeatedly represented his view evaluating Wang Sejeong unlike other Joseon writers, Japanese writers were intensely interested to him. However, understandings on Wang Sejeong were different in level and were not same focal point between Lee Unjin and Japanese writers through several conversation with writings. While Lee Unjin appreciated not Wang Sejeong’s classical feature but his study scale and infinite changing in sentences, Japanese writers appreciated aspects of ancient writers of Lee Banryong and Wang Sejeong located in a row. To conclude, views of each other were different. This paper confirmed this differences through detailed researching on contents of conversation with writings. Also, as this paper studied situations and meanings on debates between Joseon writers and Japanese writers in that times, this paper prepared the basement on deepened arguments afterward.
