초록

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art(MMCA) has been operating for half a century and has had an important influence on the artistic significance of regions and countries as the only national public art museum in Korea according to the trends of past, modern, future, and world art. The purpose of this study is to comprehend the architectural planning and composition of the exhibition space by determining the mode of operation and the current situation of the MMCA exhibition space, and to provide basic data for the architectural planning of the future art museum exhibition space. This study analyzed the space composition of the MMCA exhibition space and came up with the following results. The space composition of the MMCA is divided into three parts: Flexible space, Circulation, and Visitor. A checklist was organized into seven elements: open plan, variable wall, information, moving, thinking and emotion, publicity, and participation. As a result of investigating the exhibition program of the MMCA based on the derived checklist, it was found that the variable wall plan in the flexible space was excellent and the traffic circulation sign system was slightly inadequate. This study examines the exhibition space of the MMCA, and in the future, it will be necessary to discuss the overall architectural planning guidelines of the Museum of Modern Art to explore and present new views.
