The complexities of vehicle networks continue to increase as the number of electronic control units (ECUs) in vehicles increases. There are various issues caused by the data generated by such many ECUs. Especially, it is essential to prevent the loss of important data during transmission processes. The Ethernet-based time-sensitive networking (TSN) standards have been standardized to meet the requirements of various industries. Among TSN standards, IEEE 802.1CB is established to prevent packet loss that occurs during transmission by redundant transmission of packets through multipaths called frame replication and elimination for reliability (FRER). However, applying FRER to an actual network is not an easy task. Thus, we proposed a method to optimize the efficient utilization of resources wasted at nodes due to FRER. In the proposed method, after a receiver receives a packet with an FRER header, it transmitted a reply packet to the connected controllers in an in-vehicle network (IVN). Then, Controllers confirmed that the transmission processes were complete and avoided sending a duplicated packet to the receiver. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we designed a zonal-based IVN architecture and generated a simulator. The simulation results demonstrated that the proposed method more effectively used network resources in central processing unit (CPU) than FRER.
