초록

It is 'Boyi Biography' that has been the main issue to dispute from long times ago among 69 episodes of Shiji. The disputes on such a short episode are various including phrase interpretation, discussion-focused structure totally different from other biographies, wills of Sima Qian which can't b easily identified because it is hidden in citations and questions and special meaning and function as the leading episode in the entire structure of biography. There is a variety of disputes on the structure and theme of Boyi Biography up to now. This paper identified the structure and theme of Boyi Biography in three aspects. First, it was divided into six paragraphs as focusing on the fact that it was the combination of citations and questions in grammatical aspects. Next, the structure of six paragraphs effectively implements the conviction on the historian Confucius and diverse questions on his expression and ethical judgment. Finally, the position and function of Boyi Biography were analyzed in the relationship with Biography of Usurers by focusing on the overall structure of Shiji. Through the discussion on three aspects, the structure and theme of Boyi Biography and its position and function in the whole biography showed the new aspects.
