The Relationship between Covid-19 Stress and Depression in Young Adults: The Mediation Effects of SNS Upward Comparison Moderated by SNS Usage Intensity

초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of SNS upward comparison and SNS usage intensity in the relationship between COVID-19 stress and depression in young adults. The main findings are as follows: First, COVID-19 stress, SNS upward comparison, and depression were positively correlated with each other. SNS usage intensity was negatively correlated with COVID-19 stress and positively correlated with SNS upward comparison, but not with depression. Second, COVID-19 stress had a significant effect on depression, which was partially mediated by SNS upward comparison. Third, SNS intensity moderated the relationship between COVID-19 stress and SNS upward comparison. Finally, the indirect effect of COVID-19 stress on depression via SNS upward comparison was moderated by SNS usage intensity. Several implications for the depression of young adults in the COVID-19 pandemic were discussed.
