교육격차 실증연구의 체계적 분석

The purpose of this study was to comprehensively and systematically examine the educational gap through an empirical research study, which was published from 2000 to 2018. Over fifty articles in the study empirically dealt with educational gaps which have been searched from RISS of KERIS. The data was analyzed by applying a systemic analysis method. According to the results of the study, first of all, the current educational gap in our country has been discussed and reported in eight academic fields. In order to measure educational gaps, academic achievement was assessed and analyzed by the related studies. Secondly, the root cause of educational gaps consist of eight factors such as participation time in private tutoring, student’s home SES, different geographical areas, parents’ educational expectation and involvement, and school characteristics. Third, students’ SES played a critical role contributing to their educational gap. In addition, the educational gap among geographical areas also stemmed mainly from students’ SES. The educational gap in different geographical areas appeared markedly when the high achieving students move to schools in metro areas during their high school years. Fourth, the effect of school characteristics on the educational gap was overall trivial, but a school’s educational environment and socioeconomic level has contributed to reduce the educational gap more than the students’ SES. The implication of the study provides a better understanding about the degree of the current educational gap and future research agenda for educational policy makers and researchers.
