黑旋風 李逵의 인물 형상과 서사 기능 -金聖嘆 비평의 관점에서-

Li Kui is the only person who has no regard for and violates the military disciplines of LiangshanBo(梁山泊) as denying the absolute authority of an emperor among all people in Water Margin. While the readers may implicitly feel a sense of closeness to the unique naivety of Li Kui, they can’t openly like him because of his merciless immorality. Feeling or evaluation on Li Kui can be properly understood when we consider the relationship with Confucian moral system dominating the societies in East Asia at that time. Jin Shen-tan(金聖嘆) was very progressive in evaluating Li Kui without being restricted by Confucian moral system and showed favor on him. He identified the structure of Water Margin(水滸傳) uniquely by the conflict between “hypocritical pretense” and “violent truth.” Song Jiang(宋江) and Li Kui represented the hypocritical pretense and violent truth, respectively, in that conflict. According to the criticism of Jin Sheng-tan, Li Kui and his twin axes are the symbol of power denying and destroying the Confucian moral system. It goes beyond the scope of formal aesthetics of novel to clarify the characters and functions of Li Kui in Water Margin and evaluation on him. The character Li Kui has the meaning as the symbol of power denying the Confucian moral system ruling over the societies in East Asia and assimilating the members of those societies for a long time, beyond the challenge to the absolute power and destruction of law and order at that time. It is Jin Sheng-Tan who identified, promoted and added specific meaning to the character of Li Kui. Furthermore, Yi Un-jin(李彦瑱) in Korea accepted all criticism of Jin Sheng-tan and nature of Li Kui.
