Effect of Silica Nanoparticles on Mechanical and Rheological Properties of glass fiber filled thermotropic Liquid Crystalline polymer

Thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (TLCP) nanocomposites reinforced with silica were prepared by melt compounding process and effect of MWCNT on the thermal stability and rheological properties of TLCP/silica nanocomposites were investigated. Incorporation of silica into the TLCP matrix increased thermal stability parameters, such as Ti, Tdm, and IPDT, indicating that thermal stability of TLCP/silica nanocomposites was enhanced. The rheological properties of TLCP/silica nanocomposites are significantly dependent on silica content. As the silica content increased, the complex viscosity and storage modulus of TLCP/silica nanocomposites. This could be attributed that the silica TLCP interactions were more dominant, and some interconnected or network-like structures formed in the TLCP/silica nanocomposites.
