초록
This study explored the first KCI journal publication experiences of three Chinese doctoral students in Korean language-related fields through the lens of academic literacies. Data collected via narrative inquiry were analyzed using a conceptual framework consisting of legitimate peripheral participation, social networks and literacy brokers, negotiation with power structures, and academic identity. Participants faced multi-layered barriers in text production and institutional dimensions, and the expertise of literacy brokers and access to informal networks contributed to the mitigation of such barriers. The participants also recognized power structures in the publication process and engaged in strategic negotiations regarding writing practices, journal selection, and peer-review responses. Changes in the participants’ academic identity after their first publication varied, with publication experience not uniformly leading to researcher identity formation. This study confirms the hypothesis that academic publishing is a complex sociocultural practice involving discourse, power, and identity and suggests the necessity of establishing multilayered support systems for non-native doctoral students.
