Oryunjeonbi-gi(Wulunquanbei-ji, 五倫全備記) is a full-length dramatic work in the nanxi (southern drama) tradition, composed by Qiu Jun (丘濬, 1421–1495), who served as a Grand Academician of the Wuyingdian (武英殿大學士) in the Ming dynasty. The work holds particular significance in the history of Chinese drama—especially within the development of Ming dynasty nanxi—as a rare example of a literati-authored play from a period in which such works were scarcely produced. A particularly significant edition of Oryunjeonbi-gi has been identified among materials held by the Jangcheon-gun branch of the Yi clan of Jeonju in Gochang and made available through thedigital archives of the National Institute of Korean History. In contrast to previously reported copies preserved in public institutions such as the Kyujanggak and Hongmungwan, as well as those owned by noted scholar-officials including Jeong Gyeong-se and Song Jun-gil, this edition is distinguished by the presence of extensive phonetic annotations throughout the text. Such features strongly suggest that it functioned as a study copy, likely used by learners of Chinese, including interpreters (yeokgwan). From a chronological perspective, the Jeonju Yi clan (Jangcheon-gun branch) copy predates both the BULAC copy—thought to derive from a Hongmungwan-held copy—and the Gwanak copy associated with Dongchundang. It also precedes the Oryunjeonbi-Eonhae edition and can be dated no later than the late seventeenth century. Whereas the Kyujanggak copy represents a later reprint produced in the im-sul year following the publication of the Eonhae edition and subsequently rebound and housed in the Gyohoe-cheong, the version preserved by the National Institute of Korean History is highly likely to be the earliest extant copy among the so-called later editions of Oryunjeonbi-gi. Most notably, the phonetic annotations in the Jeonju Yi clan copy reflect linguistic features characteristic of the late seventeenth century, predating those found in the first printed edition of the Oryunjeonbi Eonhae. As such, this edition constitutes a valuable resource for the study of premodern Korean language. Furthermore, the substantial quantity of phonetic glosses suggests potential connections with Go Sieon, the famous interpretor and chief editor of Oryunjeonbi Eonhae, thereby calling for further, more advanced research.
