The Effects of Parental Psychological Control and Autonomy Support on Social Isolation among University Students: Focusing on the Sequential Mediating Effects of Self-Concept and Resilience

초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the sequential mediating effects of self-concept and resilience in the relationships between parental psychological control and social isolation, as well as autonomy support and social isolation. By doing so, the study aims to identify the factors and mechanisms influencing social isolation among university students. A total of 328 responses from university students were analyzed and the results are as follows. First, significant correlations were found among the variables. Second, self-concept and resilience each had individual mediating effects in the relationships between psychological control and social isolation, as well as between autonomy support and social isolation. Third, self-concept and resilience showed partial mediating effects in the relationship between psychological control and social isolation. Fourth, self-concept and resilience demonstrated full mediating effects in the relationship between autonomy support and social isolation. These findings contribute to identifying factors that lead to social isolation among university students and provide foundational data for preventive measures through student counseling and parental education. Based on these results, the study discusses its implications, practical applications in counseling, limitations, and directions for future research.
