고령자 시지각특성을 고려한 지하철역 사인시스템의 유니버설디자인 평가

An underground subway station has a complicated movement system, so it should be available to an unspecifiednumber of people without any inconvenience. Since most information is acquired through vision, there is a need ofimproving a signage system which supports effective way-finding. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the signage system considering the elderly visual perception characteristics from the universal aspect. The scope of the study is centered on transf er passageways and platf orms at Jongno 3-ga Station, Cheongnyangni Station, andExpress Terminal Station. The method of the study is based on literature reviews and field surveys. From the literature reviews we analyze the design elements of appropriate guides based on universal design and we derive the checklist based on the elderly visual perception characteristics. The results of the field study are as follows: First, a directional sign is a primary sign and most signage systems are based on text information. Second, the readability of the signage system is generally declined due to old facilities and the excessive placement of signs causes visual confusion. Third, there are errors in the consistency of information especially in color and text. And last, the signage system for the elderly should design text color brightness distinguished from background color brightness and it will increase the readability. It is necessary to consider the visual perception characteristics of the elderly and universal design for a effective and proper way- finding environment.
