결정적 사건으로 바라본 부모로서의 삶에 대한 의미 찾기

Finding the Meaning of Life as a Parent through Critical Events

초록

As a parent education instructor and autoethnographer, I examined the influencing relationship between the critical events on difficulties that a parent experiences while raising a child and the critical events that have been experienced during the parent’s own childhood in order to search for the meaning of life as a parent. Results of the study show that first, the 'pain' experienced by a parent expanded and deepened not only in the relationship with the child, but also through the experiences of the parent's own childhood. Second, 'growth' as a parent became possible when reflecting and realizing the influencing relationship and meaning of 'pain' experienced as a parent. Third, 'happiness' as a parent was attained after realizing the influencing relationship and meaning of 'pain,' in other words, it came to light naturally by finding the meaning of life as a parent by becoming a 'grown' parent. For more concrete methods to find the meaning of life as parents, this study suggests 'asking conscious questions,' 'doing widespread reflection,' and ‘practicing human relationships’ to propose possibilities of new changes amidst various conflicting situations related to raising a child.
