The Effect of Social Achievement Goal Orientation on Academic Self-regulation of College Students: The Mediating Effects of Basic Psychological Needs

초록

This study attempted to determine whether college students' social achievement goal orientation has a significant effect on academic emotion regulation and whether basic psychological needs mediate the relationship between social achievement goal orientation and academic emotion regulation. To achieve the research objectives, data on social achievement goal orientation, basic psychological needs, and academic emotional regulation were collected from 188 university students in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. As a result, first, the mediating effect of all sub-variables (autonomy, relationship, competence) of basic psychological needs was confirmed in the positive re-evaluation relationship between social mastery goals and emotions. Second, a significant mediating effect of competence was identified in the relationship between social mastery goals and goal matching behavior. Third, a significant mediating effect of the relationship was identified in the relationship between social performance avoidance goals and goal matching behaviors. This study is significant in that it confirmed that the motivational variable of the social context has a significant influence on the academic scene.
