1982년 세계야구선수권대회가 한국 야구사에 미친 영향

초록

This study attempts to analyzed how the South Korea’s hosting and winning the 1982 World Baseball Championship Series stoked its baseball nationalism and impacted on the its amateur and professional baseball. The year of 1982 was when anti-Japanese sentiments in South Korea was greatly on the rise, which had been derived from the falsifications in Japanese history textbooks. It is interesting to note that this baseball nationalism was generated by the dramatic come-from-behind win over Japan in the final. Yet, the popularity of South Korean amateur baseball began to plunge while its professional counterpart could lay a foundation in developing a national sport after the tournament when national baseball athletes would join professional baseball clubs. The South Korea’s hosting of the tournament led to the foundation of Chamsil Stadium, and the victory of the tournament was widely recognized as a monumental achievement of South Korean baseball.
