세계화 시대의 다문화가족의 확산과 국제관광의 사회적 기능에 대한 이론적 성찰

Theoretical Introspection on the Increase of Multicultural Families and the Social Functions of International Tourism in the Age of Globalization

초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the interconnectedness of postmodern culture in a multicultural society and the expansion of international tourism in the globalized world. It is also addressed how people construct a new cultural system by encountering the two major trends in many modern societies, multiculturalism and international tourism. The expansion of international tourism contributes to the regularization of the social order of a multicultural society and to the creation of semantic openness in the communication process of the everyday life. Besides broadening individuals' experiential horizon, international tourism in a multicultural society encourages people to cultivate cultural receptivity, interaction skills, and cultural capability of a mature citizen. In addition, it makes possible to link the universal civic education policy and the multidimensional social integration policy. In other words, the social functions of international tourism and multiculturalism is to seek simultaneously both the social differentiation process promoting individualized value of a postmodern society and the dialectic process acknowledging cultural integration through the interactions with other cultural codes. Finally, international tourism in a multicultural society provides an opportunity of the introspective interaction that enables an existing mainstream culture and a newly imported culture to accept and respect each other's cultural values.
