초록

Yi Hang-bok(1556-1618) is one of representative personnels who were widely favored by people in all social classes as the high-ranking government officer which was a nobleman. He was the hero in a variety of stories generated in political and private circles. Being a hero is not relevant to the wills of those heroes in the stories and moreover, can't be determined by the political power. Instead, those stories well express the interest of the common people in a society. If a variety of stories about the historical characters has been inherited for a long time beyond the social classes and times, there may be inevitable driving forces and practical origin. This paper starts with such a hypothesis. For proving the hypothesis, the humorous stories with Yi Hang-bok as the hero among unofficial version of historical stories were analyzed. In accordance with the analysis results, the destruction of formality(form), consideration for the weak and resistance to the strong(contents) were identified as the characteristics. Such elegance and depth are the driving force to enable the humorous stories of Yi Hang-bok to be inherited for a long time. Next, about 10 Chinese poems composed by Yi Hang-bok were analyzed to find out the origin of the form "Yi Hang-bok" in the unofficial version of historical stories. Insight and affection on the life stained by despair and wound, and the power of optimism and affirmation created by such insight and affection were found in the poems of Yi Hang-bok. He showed the power to convert despair and sorrow into hope and humor with the unlimited affection and affirmation on his life. Quiet aesthetic value contained in poems and true emotion of loud humors in the unofficial version of historical stories are equal workmanship but different styles. In conclusion, the life of Yi Hang-bok was examined. His life was familiar to death before his birth. The condition of his life was the crossroad of life and death. He experienced a lot of deaths as growing up. His political and social life was not so different from such a tendency. His life continuously faced the death ceaselessly attacking him and horror caused by such risk of death in the sociological and biological aspects. Humor was created in the process to keep the balance in his life as facing such conditions and protect his self-esteem. His humor is basically saturated with desperation to survive. It is considered that elegance and depth contained in the unofficial version of historical stories and poems on him may be originated from that desperation.
