Through the study on <WuLunQuanBei-Ji(五倫全備記)> by Qiu Jun(丘濬), I got to the sense that there should be pretty matured theatre tradition in Hainan(海南) in 15th century of Early Ming Period. Because if he had not contacted Nanxi(南戲) in his early age, he could not write the Nanxi play in his thirty. I tried to research how the theatre of Hainan was grown up through tracing the spreading of Chinese theatre of Song and Yuan period through the records of local history(地方誌) of Ming and Qing around the Hainan province. Though the materials are not sufficient, but very precious to understand the situation of Hainan of early Ming period. As it is known that the origin of Hainan theatre is the puppet troupe of Yuan dynasty, but I found that three route of formation of Hainan theatre. Mainly the Chinese Confucious culture began to reach to Hainan in Tang Song Period through the exiled literati. From the end of Song dynasty and in whole Yuan dynasty, Army brought the theatre of northern China. During Ming and Qing Dynasty, pretty much immigrant from Fujian(福建) and Guangdong(廣東) province moved into Hainan, mainly for business and trade. Through these routes, the various theatre including Song zaju(雜劇), especially Wudui(舞隊), Yuan zaju, and Nanxi, especially ‘MinGuang-ju(閩廣劇)’, enter Hainan island and formed the local theatre(土戲) of Hainan. On the base, the local theatre including the Qiongju(瓊劇) was formed in Qing period.
