Channel Estimation for Ris-Aided Mmwave Mu-Mimo Systems: Collaborative Low-Rank Matrix Completion Approach

Channel estimation is one of the key challenges for the deployment of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) aided communication systems. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel estimation algorithm for multi-user RIS-aided millimeter-wave (mmWave) systems. The main idea is to formulate the channel estimation problem as a collaborative low-rank matrix completion (C-LRMC) optimization. Since it is intractable to solve this problem directly, we introduce surrogate functions that can well-approximate our non-convex objective function. Leveraging them, we can efficiently tackle the problem via alternating optimization. Via simulations, we show the superiority of the proposed algorithm.
