The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects of innovation activities of Korean companies and to verify the relationship between the predictors and the outcome variables that affect them, and to present the empirical basis for the implementation of innovation strategies based on corporate characteristics. To this, a latent class analysis was conducted by applying a mixture model, including predictors and outcome variables using 2017 workplace panel survey data. First of all, the latent groups were identified on the basis of Korean companies’ innovation Activities. After that, company characteristics and HRM factors variables were included to predict latent class membership and a distal outcome of companies’ performance was examined. As a result of the analysis, a latent class model containing four classes was constructed, composed of product and service innovations, no innovations, organizational innovations, and proactive innovations. HRM factors were significant in predicting the classification of proactive innovations group. For the relation of companies’ performance to the membership, it was found that productivity per capita of “proactive innovation” group was highest followed by “organizational innovations” group, and other two groups. In regards to the quality of major product and service compared to competitors, “product and service innovations” group and “proactive innovations” group had higher levels than the others. The results of this study confirmed that the implementation of innovation by enterprises is leading to performance generation and that innovation can be predicted through HRM. Based on this, it is suggested that human resource management is important for innovation.
