Winning Bid Price Analysis of International 5G Spectrum Auctions : Focusing on Regression Analysis of 3.5GHz band

초록

Due to the differentiated technological characteristics of 5G mobile communication, the value of the preferred band and frequency has changed significantly from previous generations of mobile communication. In order to empirically analyze this, this paper identified factors that affect the average successful bid price of the 3.5GHz band, a core frequency band, by collecting data on recently completed 5G frequency auctions in OECD countries and performing multiple regression analysis. According to the analysis results, the successful bid price of the 3.5 GHz band tended to increase as the auction was more recent, and tended to be higher for regional licenses than for national licenses. In addition, it showed an increasing relationship as more bandwidth was provided, and then a decreasing relationship at some point, but it was not statistically confirmed. This suggests that, in promoting domestic 3.7-4.0 GHz auctions, it is desirable to carefully review the method of providing a lot of bandwidth at once rather than dividing it into small pieces, and to check well in advance whether there are various demands for regional licenses.
