초록

This study aims to clarify the conceptual meaning of the empathic capacity of nurses which is regarded as an important variable in the interaction between the nurse and the patient, grasp its attribute to find the characteristic of the empathic capacity of nurses, and review the results through examination of actual cases. The method of the concept analysis of Walker and Avant was used for analysis of concepts. The data was collected by searching the theses published between Jan. 2000 and Feb. 2018 stored in the PubMed, DBpia and RISS database using the key word of the “nursing empathy”, “empathic capacity” The attributes of the empathic capacity of nurses are: 1) mature empathy, 2) the core element of a supportive relationship, 3) an important factor of self-efficacy and job satisfaction, 4) forming a therapeutic relationship with the patient, and 5) the necessity of education and training for the improvement of the empathic capacity of nurses. The precedent factors are 1) cognitive aspect, 2) emotional aspect and 3) expressive aspect. In conclusion, the empathic capacity of nurses is “It is the core concept of nursing that forms therapeutic relationship with patient through nurses' empathy capacity.”
