This study examines the dynamic interplay between traditional news media and YouTube-based cyberwrecker channels during a celebrity scandal, with a particular focus on the attribution of responsibility frame. This research analyzes YouTube videos uploaded between October 2023 and January 2024 about a prominent celebrity drug scandal to trace how responsibility attribution frames, initially constructed by legacy media, circulate and interact with cyberwrecker channels. Utilizing topic modeling and keyword centrality, the study systematically extracts and classifies frames from YouTube videos, and employs Granger causality analysis to reveal the direction and timing of intermedia influence. Findings show that the external attribution of responsibility frames presented by traditional media are significantly associated with increased production of cyberwrecker content, typically manifesting with about a one-week delay. Additionally, while traditional media first establishes internal attribution frames in the early stages, cyberwrecker channels subsequently amplify and sustain these narratives, extending public engagement. By highlighting the mechanisms through which attribution of responsibility frames are transferred, adapted, and amplified across media types, this study advances our understanding of intermedia agenda-setting and content diffusion in today’s digital media environment.
