The Nowness of Lee Youngdo’s Sijo

초록

The distinct individuality of Lee Youngdo’s sijo rises from the plaintive and fundamental longing for absent objects. He entrusts and embodies the emotion of longing to the way of existence natural objects have inherently. In this respect, nature emotion has become the principle of writing poems taken by him as a most frequent and major way. Lee Youngdo’s sijo carries out the exploration and discovery of fundamental life force with the method of combining periodic implications and originality of natural objects. As essential images, he calls borigogae(the spring hunger), a portrait of the period, pomegranate, a medium of vivid sense, mother, an origin of existence. The core of Lee’s sijo is located in historical imagination and it has the characteristics of closely uniting the delicacy of inner worlds and detailed historical memories. Ultimately, Lee Youngdo wrote that the message and aesthetics of contemporary sijo was at life ideology combining the recognition of reality and aesthetic sense and it will function as a powerful source for reexamining the nowness of our period.
