한국인 이름의 음운적 특성에 대한 연구
초록
The purpose of this paper is to analyze Korean names based on syllable structure, focusing on phonological frequency. Using data from the top 92 names registered at the Supreme Court from 2008 to 2025, I have divided the syllables of sound into onset, nuclear, and coda, then investigated the phonemic frequencies of each element. This examination aims to explore the regularities and preferences in modern Korean names. Dividing sounds into onset, nuclear, and coda components is one method of understanding language patterns in speech. The study seeks to comprehensively analyze the phonological features of Korean language usage from various perspectives. Because of the precise analysis conducted, characteristics of modern Korean names that had not been identified in previous research were discovered. If the key findings are summarized into a single syllable, it would be ‘Jin,’ because the most frequently used onset, nuclear, and coda sounds are ‘ㅈ,’ ‘ㅣ,’ and ‘ㄴ,’ respectively. This syllable can be regarded as the element most commonly used in Korean names. Additionally, in the classification by manner of articulation for initial sounds, the sequence was ‘fricative>affricate>nasal>stop>liquid,’ and in the classification by place of articulation, it was ‘alveolar>palatal> glottal>labial>velar.’ In terms of vowels, they were categorized based on tongue height into ‘high>middle>low.’ For coda sounds, ‘ㄴ’ along with ‘ㅇ’ and ‘ㄹ’ were frequently selected.
