The multidimensionality of the concept of Justice - On the theory of Justice of I. Young and N. Fraser -

초록

In the era of globalization the main concept of justice has changed from demands for the redistribution of resources to the pursuit of the recognition. Not a few of the theorists argue that the distributive paradigm is based on the ideal of impartiality, the logic of identity, and the system of welfare capitalism. The theorists of the distributive justice have thus little understanding of the problem of structural injustice. Iris Young defines the dominance and oppression as the main structural injustice and offers the politics of difference as the radical democratic solution. Nancy Fraser makes a distinction between redistribution and recognition and then introduces ‘representation’ as the third standpoint of justice. The principle of ‘parity of participation’ enables the marginalized groups to have the chance of influencing decision-making. But the parity of participation as a solution to misrepresentation indicates a dilemma. That is, the parity of participation is the precondition for the elimination of the economic and cultural injustice, but it can be achieved only by the successful practice of the redistribution and recognition. In spite of this dilemma Fraser’s conception of justice is a significant reframing of the agent(who), substance(what), and method(how) of justice in the globalized age.
