초록

This study traces the reception history of Johann Sebastian Bach from the early part of the 20th century Korea, analyzing the primary sources that deal with various types of information about how Bach's music was first introduced, conceived, and performed. Through a close reading of these sources, this study points out that Bach music has been seen to be complex,profound, and elusive, even from the very early stage of its reception. On the one hand, it is telling that the kind of reading is still prevalent. On the other hand, the reading requires further research, calling for more detailed study as to analyze the various shades of meaning that Bach's music carries today.
