보행활동에 영향을 미치는 커뮤니티 물리적 환경의 조절효과: 서울시 사례를 중심으로

초록

This study empirically assesses the moderation effects of neighborhood-level physicalenvironment, individual socioeconomic characteristics and housing types on walking activity,using multi-level regression modeling. Using individual’s on-average walking time per day asthe dependent variable, we employ explanatory variables such as density, diversity, design, andaccessibility for neighborhood physical environment based on the residential addresses ofsurvey respondents. Our results confirmed mediation effects between neighborhood-levelphysical environment and individual socioeconomic features that influence individual walkingactivity. In particular, transit accessibility in residential areas has a mediation effect withindividual car ownership in explaining individual walking activity. This result demonstrates thatthe association between neighborhood environment and personal walking activity can bebetter understood if the interaction effects between neighborhood environment and individualfactors are considered.
