바이오 뱅크의 윤리적 쟁점

Current Ethical Issues of Biobanks

초록

A biobank is a research-facilitating system where biological samples derived from organisms, especially humans are collected, stored and managed for future biomedical studies. Despite its ultimate goal to promote human welfare, biobanks, especially the large-scale ones which are recently popular worldwide, confront a number of ethical problems to require careful considerations. Those problems include the variations of old problems such as how to modify the concept of ‘informed consent’ in the context of biobanks, and rather novel challenges such as the danger of identity politics based on a wrong idea of genetic information. I will argue that transparency and concern for public interests should be the cornerstones of the governance structure of biobanks in order to deal with the problems in a ethically justified way.
