초록

It is generally recognized that the role of local governments is crucial in making andimplementing employment policies. This recognition means that local governments mustunderstand characteristics of their labor market and make policies accordingly. In order tofully understand local labor market, it is necessary to develop indicators that can evaluateemployment characteristics in terms of quantitative and qualitative aspects. Therefore, thispaper attempts to develop the indicator for evaluating employment characteristics of 16regions including metropolitans and provinces in Korea. Also, based on the evaluationresults obtained, 16 regions are classified into four-type regions by the quantitative andqualitative level of employments. Finally, the paper provides policy direction of employmentfor typed regions.
