The Mediating Effects of Mentalizationand Hostile Attribution Bias in the Relationship Between Shame and Aggression

초록

The purpose of the study was to examine the mediating effects of shame and aggression in the relationship between mentalization and hostile attribution bias. An online survey was conducted with 302 adults, and the collected data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. As a result, there were significant correlations between the four variables. The hostile attribution bias significantly mediated the relationship between shame and aggression, while mentalization did not. Further, the relationship between shame and aggression was sequentially mediated by mentalization and hostile attribution bias. This study elaborated and expanded the results of previous studies by identifying specific psychological mechanisms playing in the relationship between shame and aggression. Finally, clinical implications, limitations of the study, and directions for future studies were discussed.
