1386년 정몽주의 南京 사행, 路程과 詩境

초록

In 1386, Jeong Mongju undertook four diplomatic trips to Nanjing, the capital of the Ming dynasty, at a time when relations between Goryeo and the Ming were tense. The envoys traveled approximately 4,000 kilometers over several land and water routes. This paper will first examine the envoys’ route from Dengzhou (登州) on the Shandong (山東) peninsula, to Nanjing. Then it will look closely at the approximately 60 poems that Jeong Mongju wrote during these trips. The current author re-arranged the poems according the geography they describe. He then visited the sites over the course of nine days. With the exception of some extremely small parts, the round-trip route taken by Jeong Mongju was identified. During two months from March 19 to May 17 in 1386, Jeong Mongju travelled to Nanjing and vividly described the scenery. The experience of travel gave birth to these poems and in return, the poems stimulate the readers’ imagining of that space. The experience of the journey helps us to understand the poems while an aesthetic understanding of the poems enriches the significance of this geographical space. The poems by Jeong Mongju written while en route from Dengzhou to Nanjing are very rare works in the history of Korean literature and are of a high aesthetic level. On account of this, the route from Dengzhou to Naning now occupies a space in Korean literature .
