This paper presents the results of a study on the electromagnetic drag force analysis of a hyperloop system for traveling up to 1200 km/h by installing superconducting electromagnets (SCMs) in the vehicle's bogie and mounting coreless linear synchronous motors (LSMs) in a vacuum tube with an electrodynamic suspension (EDS) system. The tube of the hyperloop system is made of steel to withstand the sub-vacuum condition about 0.001 atm, but when a superconducting coreless LSM is used as a propulsion system, there is no magnetic material that can shield the strong magnetic field caused by the SCM, and then eddy currents caused by the magnetic field may occur in the tube steel. The eddy currents generated in the tube steel generate drag forces that impede the driving of the vehicle, which in turn becomes the driving resistance of the hyperloop system. In order to explore the drag force characteristics, this paper studied the theoretical causes of electromagnetic drag, and based on the theoretical background, studied the drag force variation depending on the material properties of the tube steel.
