성공회의 『성교리증(聖敎理證)』 간행과 교리서의 현지화

초록

This study pursues to evaluate the value of the publication of catechism called Seonggyorijeung and its spreading over and inculturation process in Korea. This writer appropriates the comparison–study of textual variants deducive from the methodological approach adopted by the scholars currently working in Korean Literature and Chinese Literature to trace divergent aspects of a developmental process of a sort of a transmitted book. As Anglicans in the early time of their Korean mission temporarily engaged in publication, they brought the book from China and made it publicized with attention to cultural customs and religious status quo of Korea. The book had also experienced the process of re–publications, which resulted in various changes such as the list of content between textual variants, transliteration method, and so forth. Conclusively, it is expected to trace Anglican’s mission in earlier times and its related project of inculturation phase of Anglican’s doctrines. In addition, no one cannot deny how important a scrutinized study of earlier works appeared in the beginning era of missionary ministry to Koreans.
