Caspian Energy Transport Strategies of Russia, America and EU

초록

Caspian Energy Transport Strategies of Russia, America and EU Younkyoo Kim ⋅ Gu-Ho Eom The purpose of this article is to examine cooperation and conflicts among the Caspian countries over the constructing of the East-West Energy Transport Corridor. Much attention has focused on BTC, BTE, TCOP and TCGP with Turkey emerging as a major energy transport hub as the energy security needs of the US and EU member states have become a pressing issue. The article examine the proposed Pre-Caspian En-ergy Pipeline spearheaded by Russia. One of the major findings of the article is that it will be difficult for Eurasian crude oil and natural gas to reach European markets via Turkey given Russia’s grip on energy transportation routes, and bearing in mind Moscow’s interest in preserving its political and economic influence in Central Asia. In the foreseeable future, with regard to the post-Soviet states of the Caspian region, only Azerbaijani and Kazakh crude and Azer-baijani natural gas is likely to be transported to European consumers via Turkey.
