초록

The aim of this study is to deeply explore the profound changes in life and the meaning of experiences gained through volunteer activities among culture and tour guide after retirement. Phenomenological research methods were employed, involving in-depth interviews with five participants, categorized open-ended questions, and the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen procedure for analysis by Moustakas. In the analysis, 11 themes, 34 units of meaning, and 314 meaningful statements were identified. The analysis revealed retirement perceptions: 'opportunities to embrace a new world' and 'anxiety about change'. Life changes encompassed 'joyful efforts in refining knowledge', 'a rich life filled with diverse experiences', 'self-esteem as an invaluable treasure' and 'a respected life'. The study emphasizes the significance of cultural and tour guides volunteering through 'altruism, a transformative force in the world', 'a pride-filled history of my country', 'transmitting the truth of history as our duty', 'the mission of passing down cultural heritage' and 'I am a civilian ambassador representing Korea, a bearer of intangible heritage'. This study deeply analyzes retirement perceptions, life changes, and the significance of experiences through volunteer activities. It holds importance as foundational material to support the creation of an environment post-retirement, fostering diverse goals and roles for individuals and society.
