A Study on the possibility of tourism city in Baalbek

초록

Lebanon occupies a strategic location on the Eastern Mediterranean. Linking East to West and sea to hinterland, it has a crossroads over the centuries. The capital Beirut involved in the economic life of the region due to its port. Baalbek can be counted among the wonders of the ancient world, the largest and noblest Roman temples ever built also the best preserved. Towering high above the Beqaa plain, their monumental proportions (the six Corinthian columns of the Great Temple, thrusting 22 meters into the skyline) proclaimed the power and wealth of Imperial Rome. Baalbeck is located on two main historic trade routes, one between the Mediterranean coast and Syrian interior and other northern Syria and northern Palestine. Today the city is an important administrative and economic center in the northern Beqaa valley. A negative effect of the presence of such monument describes Baalbek situation. The people live under strict rules of development and preservation, which hinders them from benefiting from their house assets. the propose of this paper is to establish an urban conservation and development plan, to complete and integrate the archeological site with a good conservation and management, focusing on enhanced cultural tourism and urban regeneration as a tool for the city sustainable longer term development program.
