부모와 자녀의 사회경제적 배경이 자녀의 결혼연령에 미치는 영향 : 수도권과 비수도권 차이를 중심으로

Young people are having difficulty getting married due to changes in the industrial structure and continuous rise in housing prices. This situation made them rely on parental support rather than individual self-reliance in the marriage process, and the type and scale of parental support differ depending on the socio-economic background of parents. This study paid attention to this and demonstrated through multiple regression analysis how the socioeconomic status of parents affects their children's marriage age. The results of this study are, first, it was found that the socioeconomic status of parents, job type and income level, shortens the marriage age of children. Second, compared by region, only income level and residential housing price, which are the economic status of parents, were important in the non-metropolitan area. However, in the metropolitan area, where housing prices are relatively high, not only income level, residential housing price, and financial assets, but also education level and occupation, which are parents' social status, are important. This suggests that the class differences between children's generations due to parental support can lead to inequality in important life cycle transitions such as marriage, especially in the metropolitan area where housing prices are high. In order to alleviate this phenomenon, policy efforts to stabilize housing prices are needed along with in-depth marriage support policies.
