Part-time Work and Marriage Satisfaction among Women in Dual-income Families: Focusing on the Mediating Effects of the Division of Household Labor

초록

This study aims to examine the mediating effects of the division of household labor on the relationship between the type of labor force participation (i.e., part-time or full-time) and marriage satisfaction among women in dual-income families. For the study, data from the 7th wave of Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Family were analyzed. The study sample was consisted of 1,118 women aged between 25 and 54 in dual-income families. The results of the analysis are as following: First. women who work par-time tend to have higher share rates of household labor time than women who work full-time. Second, the sharing rare of household labor had significant mediating effects on the relationship between the type of labor force participation and marital satisfaction among the women. The study results imply that social policy measures can be developed to reduce the burden of women who work part-time and consequently increase marital satisfaction in dual-income families.
