상담 수퍼비전에서의 수퍼바이지의 전환적 학습 경험

초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore significant learning experiences of professionalcounselors, who had received supervision over an extended period of time, that served as a turningpoint in their professional growth. Methods: Semi-structured, individual interviews were conducted with ten professional counselors, whohad earned an advanced-level certification in counseling within the last two years, and data wereanalyzed using the Consensual Qualitative Research method proposed by Hill et al.(2005). Results: Results indicated that the characteristics of a supervisor, which contributed to the transformationallearning of the participants, included ‘genuine concern and respect’, ‘empathic and supportive attitudes’,and ‘guided discovery approaches’. Transformational learning contents were identified as ‘acquiringa core set of counseling principles and skills’, ‘gaining increased self-understanding as a counselor’,and ‘feeling empowered by discovering capabilities and strengths’. In addition, the consequences oftransformational learning typically included ‘making efforts to contain and trust a client’ and ‘restoringhope and courage for continual professional growth’. Conclusion: Findings from this study should serve as guidelines for effective supervisor attitudes,behaviors and supervisory interventions to facilitate the learning of supervisees for their professionaldevelopment.
