초록
In recent years, museums have increasingly embraced online exhibitions, leveraging network technology to convey information about exhibits through interactive virtual spaces. These exhibitions typically integrate visual elements such as text, symbols, graphics, and audio, facilitating easier access to information for viewers. By transcending the limitations of time and space, these online exhibitions build upon the thematic strengths of their offline counterparts and enhance the audience’s understanding through the digital visualization of exhibition content. Notably, ceramic artifacts, which constitute a significant portion of many museum collections, play a central role in these exhibitions. This study has found that online exhibitions of ceramic artifacts are primarily divided into artifact-driven and narrative-driven formats, with the latter being more prevalent. Therefore, this research conducts a case analysis to examine the implementation of visual elements in the online exhibition of ceramic artifacts. The Palace Museum in China, known for its extensive collection of historical paintings and ceramic artifacts, favors the use of image-based media to convey information about ceramic pieces. This institution extends the scope of its exhibitions through virtual spaces, offering a substantial amount of information. Conversely, The Metropolitan Museum in the United States places emphasis on audio narrative data to provide individuals with nuanced interpretations of ceramic artifacts, while also employing 3D images to offer a more immersive visual experience. The analysis indicates that the interpretation of textual narratives and the comparison of artifact images are common strategies for generating new meanings in the online exhibition of ceramic artifacts. At the same time, the varied use of different narrative media underscores each museum’s distinctive approach to the presentation and content of artifact displays.
