Behavioral and phychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are most distressing manifestations of dementia and result in considerable social and economic burden. They are highly prevalent in Alzheimer`s disease (AD) and other progressive degenerative dementia. Neurologists who are taking care of outpatients are frequently asked to prescribe medications for lessening of BPSD. This review discusses when and how to consider the non-pharmacological strategy to control the BPSD and prescribe medication and encountered side effects in tne management of BPSD
