The Lived Experience of Psychiatric Nursing Clinical Practicum of Digital Native Nursing Students

초록

This study was conducted using a phenomenological approach to explore in-depth the psychiatric nursing clinical practice experiences of digital native nursing students. Data were collected from October to December 2025 through in-depth interviews with 12 nursing students, and the collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. As a result, four categories and nine theme clusters emerged. The four categories were: "Fear of practice and thirst for information aggravated by media," "Experiencing a confusing clinical practice," "Shattering prejudices through direct encounters and rediscovering relationships," and "Recognizing the need for a learning environment that allows safe failures." The participants experienced anxiety and confusion in a clinical setting characterized by a lack of immediate feedback and delayed responses. However, through direct interactions with patients, they overcame media-induced prejudices and gradually realized the true meaning of caring. Throughout this process, they recognized the need for preparatory learning environments where "safe failures" are permitted without causing harm to patients. Based on the findings, future research is recommended to implement various digital-based educational programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
