Antioxidant proteins in Haematococcus pluvialis

초록

Antioxidant proteins in Haematococcus pluvialis . Jihyun Yun, Inkyu Kwak, and EonSeon Jin Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced in both unstressed and stressed cells. Under unstressed conditions, the formation and removal of O2 are in balance. Within a cell, the superoxide dismutases (SODs) constitute the first line of defense against ROS. Peroxiredoxins (Prxs) are thiol-specific antioxidant protein. In this study, cDNA clones encoding MnSOD and peroxiredoxins were identified by searching the Haematococcus pluvialis database of expressed sequence tags (dbEST). The partial sequences of these antioxidant genes showed high homology with Chlamydomonas reinhardtii cDNA sequences. Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA indicated that the Prxs in H. pluvialis were encoded by multigene family. Expression patterns of two Prxs and MnSOD genes under oxidative stress condition were compared.
