사립박물관의 교육프로그램 개발과 운영의 현실과 과제: 강릉 동양자수 박물관 사례에 대한 반성적 고찰
초록
Although private museums have made great contribution to development of Korean culture, it used to be underestimated and there has been lack of support from Korean government. Therefore, many Korean private museums are at a serious critical moment caused by difficulties of museum management. Currently, preparing better museum education program can be a significant issue for private museums because it can help them to play their original role effectively and solve their financial problems for management. However, most research on effective teaching and learning models for museum education was conducted targeting National Museum or a few private museums which do not suffer from financial issues. Therefore, these teaching and learning models were not helpful for small size private museums to improve their education program. In this study, one small private museum which was newly registered as a museum, the Museum of Oriental Embroidery was investigated in order to figure out how this small museum had improved their education program for visitors successfully. For in-depth understanding of this case, first, discourse on the concept of visitor-centered museum and constructivism was reviewed and then the case of the Museum of Oriental Embroidery was investigated using qualitative research methods. Observation and interviews with officials of the Museum of Oriental embroidery was conducted and additional data collection from various sources was also attempted. The result of this study showed that most officials of that museum has a very traditional perspective on museum education based on the concept of object-based museum. Therefore, in order to prepare new format of museum education program, it needed to change this perspective from obased-based one to visitor-based one. The purpose of the previous education program was to transfer knowledge about displayed objects from museum person such as a museum docent to visitor. In the new museum education program, the purpose of museum education was to make visitors experience in museum more meaningful for individuals. That was to help visitors connect what they experienced before and what they knew to the objects displayed in museum. However, in order to make more positive changes, government's interests in and supports to private museums are still strongly required.
