Resonance frequency and linewidth are key metrics for guided-mode resonance (GMR) devices and their independent control is important for practical applications. Trial–solution-based approaches have been used to obtain appropriate element designs with desired key metrics. In this paper, we propose a dual-ridge compound unit-cell structure for fully independent key-metric control in a deterministic manner. We derive a concise design-parametric search space that analytically relates the key GMR metrics with the unit-cell geometry without undesirable complications which are inherent in the previous approaches. On this basis, we demonstrate completely independent control on the multiple key GMR metrics. In addition, our proposed approach describes how non-Hermitian and topological features such as Fermi arcs and exceptional points emerge in GMR spectra.
