구술사(oral history)를 활용한 인문치료의 모색- 기억, 트라우마, 그리고 역사치료 -

초록

The purpose of this study is to explore whether oral history research in recalling suppressed memory could be grafted with humanities therapy. Oral history research (not only problems of everyday life) is a history research domain that can be of important role in curing the painful personal memory trauma caused by historical incidents as well as in curing the traumatic memory, or the past historical trauma of a group. If oral history can be used in humanities therapy, it will be a very practical and efficient operation in achieving a double duty of investigating the truth, curing of trauma and of maintaining peace for individuals and groups. This essay will ponder upon what recalling the painful and suppressed memory of the past informs us today and what value the memory has and how the historical trauma of an individual or a group can be cured based on its meaning and value. This will be helpful in thinking about how much oral history can contribute in curing the trauma through recalling of suppressed memory. Thus it might be the first step in applying oral history on humanities therapy. For such purpose, the article first discuss about the relationships between memory, history and curing of trauma, and then clarify the healing power of oral history and define oral history research as one of the main methodologies of curing historical trauma. Given that individuals and groups have not be cured from historical trauma regarding the colonial and war experiences, oral history research could play a major role finding mental and social peace in our society and for individuals by curing historical trauma through recalling of memory.
