The Impact of Cruise Employees’ Job-Stress Recovery Experience on Intrinsic Job Motivation, Innovation Behavior and Work Engagement

The purpose of this research was to examine the impact of cruise employees’ job-stress recovery experience on intrinsic job motivation, and investigate the effect of cruise employees’ intrinsic job motivation on innovation behavior and work engagement. Additionally, research was to test the moderating role of nationality in the relationship between job-stress recovery experience and intrinsic job motivation. To empirically test the conceptual research model proposed, data were collected from 260 cruise employees who are working in the cruise ship. The research results showed that cruise employees’ psychological detachment and relaxation of job-stress recovery experience have positive impact on intrinsic job motivation except mastery and control of job-stress recovery experience. In addition, cruise employees’ intrinsic job motivation influences on innovation behavior and work engagement. Lastly, the moderating role of nationality was supported. It was found that psychological detachment and control of job-stress recovery experience have an impact on intrinsic job motivation. Based on these findings, theoretical and practical implications were provided in the research.
